Department of Psychology (website)

The department continuously co-operates on interdisciplinary studies with other departments in hospitals. In recent years it has been trying to integrate positive psychology with the traditional mental health model, develop systematic diagnostic tools, and verify the reliability and validity of the intervention model with local features. The department is developing a research culture, valuing both theory and application.

Department of Medical Sociology and Social Work (website)

In 1989, the Kaohsiung Medical College established her tenth Department, the Department of Medical Sociology and Social Work, to advance scientific knowledge and provide professional education and leadership in research, medical social work practice, and community services to promote health and to enhance social welfare. Models of human behaviors and theories of social structure are introduced for better understandings of health behaviors and improving contemporary health and social policies. The Department of Medical Sociology and Social Work is committed to the development of health and social welfare policies and trainings of social workers.

Graduate Insititute of Gender Studies (website)

The Graduate Institute of Gender Studies at Kaohsiung Medical University (established in 2001) investigates gender studies in a broad concept. It covers gender issues in various cultures and contributions of women from feminist perspectives. As a community of scholars/teachers/learners we are devoted to understanding diverse lives, issues, and voices of women in the society. We seek to use this knowledge to inform our critical practice in our own lives, the university, and community for the purpose of creating a more just and equitable society.

Chinese Language Center (website)

This center is a language teaching unit, belonging to the Center for General Education, in charge of Mandarin courses. When the College of Humanities and Social Science was established, the unit was integrated into the Center for Languages and Culture before it was formally established as a center in 2014. This Center offers Chinese courses for international students and collaborates with Office of Global Affairs for cultural activities.

Kaohsiung Medical University is a professional medical university, and the center not only dedicates to teaching Mandarin and the development of medical Mandarin course materials but also makes efforts to promote Taiwan’s culture.
